New Update: Medford Woman Assaulted While On Walk, Police Ask For Help To ID Suspect

Police shared a video of the man who repeatedly punched a woman in her 20s who was taking an evening walk in the hopes that a member of the public will recognize the attacker.

A woman in her 20s was taken to the hospital after being hit multiple times by an unknown man who followed her at night, officials say. 

The young woman was taking an evening walk in the area of Main Street and Royall Street when a man physically assaulted her around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, according to the Medford Police Department. 

The victim first realized that she was being followed while near the intersection of Boston Avenue and College Avenue.

She continued walking to the end of Royall Street and the man ran up to her, grabbed her from behind, and struck her several times. 

The woman fought back and screamed loudly during the altercation. The pair struggled and the man ran back down Royall Street toward College Avenue. 

The victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by Armstrong Ambulance. 

The suspect is described as a male between the ages of 18 and 30, standing between 5 foot 8 inches tall and 5 foot 10 inches tall, with a slim build and medium to dark complexion. He was seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white writing, dark jeans, and black and white sneakers.

As part of their investigation, police are seeking surveillance footage from residents or businesses from the Ball Square, Somerville area, Boston Ave and College Avenue to Royall Street at Main Street, Medford.

Police are providing "enhanced" attention to the area, especially during the evening and early morning hours. 

The public is asked to be careful when traveling alone at night and to stay vigilant of their surroundings.
